The power structure in Washington is focused around money. Hypocritical congressmen are driven to take money from the super-wealthy millionaires and fancy lobbyists representing massive companies. The rich and wealthy get the ears of lawmakers as hard working, middle-class voters get the short end of the stick every time. Kendra refuses to accept corporate PAC money and is committed to giving voters a choice they can trust will only answer to them. Voters must have an equal voice in politics. Big money politics have led to serious problems for working class Americans and our freedom is at stake when our interests aren't represented by our representative.
A healthy West Virginia is a prosperous West Virginia, and Kendra will lead the effort to ensure that healthcare is a reality for everyone. Kendra believes that universal healthcare is a right and that everyone, no matter how rich or how poor, how young or how old, should have access to quality healthcare. Good healthcare for everyone is not only the right thing to do, it will end up saving taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.
West Virginians realize that our state infrastructure is in dire need of repair and maintenance. By focusing on our needs here in West Virginia – on roads, bridges, pipelines, and broadband all over the state – we will not only create jobs, but we will strengthen our state’s economic foundation. Improving our infrastructure will create a solid economic backbone, leading to more investment from businesses and creating thousands of new, good-paying jobs.
Small businesses are the job-creating engine of a healthy economy. West Virginia small businesses have been put in a stranglehold by our current congressman who prefers to cater to huge corporations and lobbyists. It’s time we had a voice fighting to grow our economy and create good-paying jobs right here at home – not just in other states and not in other countries, but right here in the Mountain State.
Medical marijuana is also a job-creating industry, that other states are making millions from. Kendra will push to make West Virginia one of the top job creators in this industry, bringing jobs back, and bringing our families and our neighbors back to our state. The federal government is getting in the way of our state law and we need a leader who will help pave the way forward.
It is imperative that Congress set politics aside to focus on putting an end to the opioid crisis. Currently, our state leads the nation in overdose deaths. This is NOT acceptable and we deserve leaders who will walk the walk and get things done – not just wag fingers and grandstand while more and more West Virginians die every day from overdoses.
The opioid crisis is a public health emergency. For decades, Congress has worked to criminalize victims of addiction, and the war on drugs has proven to be completely ineffective. Kendra will work tirelessly to put a stop to the ineffective war on drugs and work to hold big corporations accountable while creating pathways to better treatment options for families who suffer from opioid addiction.
Kendra's comprehensive plans to attack the opioid crisis involve increasing the availability of the life-saving drug, naloxone. This drug has saved countless lives and it is imperative that we make it more available to first responders and family members.
We must hold big drug companies accountable. This multi-billion-dollar industry is lining their pockets while our neighbors, friends, and loved ones are suffering the life-ending consequences of addiction. As a family law professor, Kendra has dedicated her career to serving West Virginia families, and protecting our loved ones is a fight she’ll keep up until there’s a solution!
Kendra will fight to enact laws that legalize medical marijuana throughout the United States and allow states to regulate all uses. With opioid addiction through the roof and healthcare costs skyrocketing, it is clear that American citizens need more options to manage their individual health needs. Medical marijuana has worked wonders for cancer survivors and people with epilepsy. It is embarrassing that our federal government decides to help big pharma instead of everyday American citizens.
It is now clear that marijuana has medicinal value, and Kendra is committed to expanding our nation's knowledge of how its use can improve the health of people with severe illness.
Our state schools have consistently struggled with funding and with effectiveness. As an educator, Kendra understands that our schools need more support from Washington, and that's exactly what she will do as our representative.
The fight starts with incentivizing educators to stay in West Virginia. With people leaving the state at alarming rates, it is critical that we secure solid wages and benefits for quality teachers that can effectively educate our children so that West Virginia doesn't lose any more valuable teachers.
Kendra is also a firm supporter of affordable education beyond k-12. No one should be priced out of a higher education based on their income, and Kendra will lead the efforts in Washington to make college more affordable for West Virginians.
